Angel Girl
This week our book was Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  We did a bunch of activities from Homeschoolshare.com.  It was an interesting week because Angel Girl knows this book well and so by the end she was "reading" it to me.
I also set up a Montessori work that had her using tweezers to sort 2 colors of pom poms. 
We played with pattern blocks (and made a birthday cake for Auntie with them).
We tried to make homemade Kazoo's from toilet paper rolls, that was a bit of a fail.
We put together a junk box for her to keep her "special" things that she finds outside and around the house.

Sept 5 - 9

Angel Girl
Our Before Five in a Row book was Goodnight Moon.  We did art, animal classification game, memory practice using the pictures, learned Hey Diddle Diddle, and read Goldielocks and the Three Bears by Jan Brett.
Montessori work this week was opening and closing doors, especially the front door because Angel Girl told me she didn't know how to close it the other day.
We did free play with our C-rods.
We made popsicles and talked about liquids and solids.
We also made some shape cutouts that we traced to practice our shapes with.

Thursday: Sniff Test

So I got this idea from Chasing Cheerios...basically I get really smelling things and put them on cotton balls and into jars...then we do sniff testing to decide what we like and also did a matching game where we match the smell to the original.

Friday: House Tour

This was an idea I got from a reading conference I recently went to. The teacher (who was trained in montessori education) used a traveling set of words that they used to actively label things around their school. I thought this would be a fun idea to use around the house. I figured it would aid in vocabulary development along with the beginning of text recognition. So I typed up a list of things in our home and cut them out. Then I handed one to Angel Girl and had her put it on the item. It was super cute to watch her try to figure out how to get the word to stick to things like the playpen or fridge. We only did about 7 to 10 of the words but they are going on her "learning" shelf and I plan to pull them out when we have a few minutes.

Monday/Wednesday: Sequencing

Monday and Wednesday we started learning about sequencing. I started with first and last. Then on Wednesday we did first, middle, and last. I used the cards from this activity. They seemed to be the most realistic. Angel Girl did not completely understand but I figure this is a great activity to put on her activity shelf to practice throughout the month.
Learning sequence is important both in story comprehension and also in word learning. Children need to learn how to look from the 1st letter through to the last and so the concept of first middle and last is very important.

Spooning Rice

So one activity that Angel Girl enjoys is spooning rice (I am sure there is a real term for it but that is what I call it). For me I have tupperware container that has 3 compartments and then I let her fill and empty the compartments of rice. It can entertain her for 10 to 15 minutes which in AE terms is a LONG time.

Montessori Albums

These Montessori Albums are a collection of activities done but Jenny Yen. They are divided by area of learning and have very specific directions. Many of the activities incorporate Montessori learning materials that can be bought or made.

Montessori Training

Montessori Training is a blog about Montessori education. It has good information about teaching montessori methods.

Montessori World

Montessori World has lots of information about the Montessori method which I have found very good for early childhood activities. Check out the handwork section there are craft ideas for young children. Or the Beginning Reading section has ideas for activities that promote early reading. I think it is a great resource specifically for hands on early childhood education.
